There is officially ONE WEEK until Newburyport's 1st ever International Day of Yoga Celebration on the Waterfront and I am so excited to practice with everyone in the park.
The United Nations proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga by resolution 69/131. “The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga.” - https://www.un.org/en/events/yogaday/
The idea behind bringing the event to Newburyport originated in Copley Square in Boston. Last year, a few friends offered a similar free event. I remember standing in a crowd of over 150 people practicing in Copley Square and thinking how powerful it was to see Boston come together to honor one another in the practice of yoga.
Yoga events and festivals have had a huge impact on my life. I started going to Wanderlust Festival when I was 23 years old and ever since, I have admired the way these events bring people together.
I would not only go to these events to practice yoga, but watch in awe as other health & wellness entrepreneurs spoke so passionately about their work and wanting to make an impact in the world. I remember thinking “that is that I want to be when I grow up.”
Now, with International Day of Yoga 2019 right around the corner, I can’t help but be ecstatic. So many people have already come together to donate hours and days of their time to show that yoga should be accessible to everyone.
Although, there is still more work to done in these areas, I am so proud to see the evolution of yoga continue to develop. There have been some serious strides made by the yoga community and influential organizations to honor diversity in yoga and be inclusive of all.
With that said, I am so excited to see everyone on their mats on June 21st from 5:30-6:30pm for an all-levels Yoga Flow class. You can register here: http://bit.ly/InternationalYogaDay19.
